Terms of Service

Welcome to Otteroke, a personal karaoke application accessible at https://sing.otterpond.dev/. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Otteroke. By accessing or using Otteroke, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. YouTube Terms of Service

Otteroke uses YouTube API Services to search for, retrieve metadata about, and embed YouTube videos. By using Otteroke, you are also agreeing to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service, available at https://www.youtube.com/t/terms.

Information accessed through YouTube API Services is also subject to the Google Privacy Policy.

2. Description of the Service

Otteroke lets a group of guests at a party take turns choosing songs to sing along to. A host creates a karaoke roomand receives a short random room code along with a 4-digit room PIN. Guests join the room with the code (typed in or scanned from a QR code on the host's screen), enter their name, and pick a song; the host's screen plays an embedded YouTube video for each song in turn. The service is provided free of charge for personal, non-commercial use.

3. Rooms, Codes, and PINs

The room code lets guests join the room and is intended to be shared publicly with the people you want to invite. The room PIN gates access to the admin and play screens for that room. The PIN is a convenience for casual, in-person use; it is not a strong authentication credential.

Anyone with the PIN for a room can manage that room's queue, change the PIN, or open the play screen. As the host, you are responsible for:

• Choosing where and with whom you share the room code and PIN;
• Rotating the PIN when you want to remove access from people who previously had it (changing the PIN signs out every other authenticated browser);
• Not using the room name to store sensitive information, since the name is visible to anyone with the room code.

Otteroke does not offer per-user accounts, passwords, or recovery flows for rooms or PINs. If you forget a PIN, contact the room operator.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Otteroke to:

• Violate any applicable law or the YouTube Terms of Service;
• Attempt to download, copy, redistribute, or permanently store any video, audio, or other content streamed through embedded YouTube players;
• Reverse-engineer, scrape, or otherwise abuse the YouTube API or Otteroke's interfaces;
• Attempt to guess, brute-force, or otherwise circumvent room PINs or access rooms you have not been invited to;
• Harass, threaten, or harm other users of the same room or any other room;
• Interfere with or disrupt the service or its underlying infrastructure.

5. Content

All video and audio content played through Otteroke is hosted by and streamed from YouTube. Otteroke does not host, own, or claim any rights to that content. The content remains the property of its respective owners and is subject to YouTube's terms and the rights granted by the content's creators.

6. Privacy

Your use of Otteroke is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we share it.

7. Disclaimers

Otteroke is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses. Video availability, embeddability, and quality are determined by YouTube and the content's uploader.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Otteroke and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the service.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of Otteroke after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
